Plums, plums, An abundance of plums! Plums by the hundred, plums by the thousand, All ripening at once in the summer sun, Sweet and delicious In pies, in crumbles, in chutney and jam, Or just plucked from the tree and popped Into the mouth for a tasty juicy treat! More plums than we can eat, More plums than we can cook, More plums than we can give away! An abundance of plums, Reminds me of . . . Grace, grace, An abundance of grace! Grace undeserved, grace unlimited, Poured out upon us by the God of love, A gift of grace For faith, for strength, for health and life, Generous, lavish, overflowing, Through Jesus Christ our gracious saviour! More grace than we can fathom, More grace than we deserve, More grace than we can comprehend! How can it be? Amazing grace!
There is abundance all around us this year - not just on the plum tree in our garden, but it looks like there’ll be a bumper apple crop too, and the oak trees in the park have masses and masses of acorns. God is abundant by nature, not just in creation, but also in his abundant love and grace towards each one of us.
God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. And God is able to make all grace abound to you so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. (James 4:6, 2 Corinthians 9:8)
